PiPort's Double Delight: Intel's Perceptual Computing Challenge Finalists.

Perceptual computing is reshaping the way we interact with our devices, making it more natural, intuitive and immersible. Devices will be able to perceive our actions through new capabilities including hand gestures, finger articulation, speech recognition, face tracking, augmented reality experiences, and more. Perceptual Computing is fundamentally changing human–computer interaction.

Intel® recently introduced the The Intel® Perceptual Computing Challenge encouraging developers to use the Perceptual Computing SDK to create innovative applications. The Intel Perceptual Computing SDK allows developers to add perceptual computing usages to applications for 2nd 3rd and 4th generation Intel® Core™ processor-based Ultrabook™ devices, laptops, and desktop systems. The current SDK supports close range (~6” to 36”) perceptual computing usage modes including speech recognition, face analysis and tracking, hand, finger and gesture tracking, and 2D/ 3D object tracking. Intel has the resources and R+D support. They are looking for the most innovative and unique uses of Perceptual Computing. A grand-prize of $100,000 and thousands of dollars more in prizes are announced. Wasting no time, PiPort submitted two of its innovative ideas, which were reviewed in PiPort's previous blog postings and also available at following links: www.teleportek.com/demo and http://thinair.piport.net/demo.

Having little doubt that PiPort's ThinAir™ and Teleporter Pi™ technologies have the potential to revolutionize the perceptual computing industry, Intel's decision to select both of these projects as contest finalists came as no surprise. Nevertheless, the double draw from the first phase of the Intel Challenge was indeed very gratifying. Pleased with the decision, PiPort feels very confident of its knowledge base, skills, and the capabilities to turn these innovations into the game changers of the rapidly evolving multi-billion dollar perceptual computing industry.

PiPort™ is determined to revolutionize the way humanity will interact with computers in times to come. But for now, you can follow PiPort on Facebook, Twitter, and keep checking updates by visiting www.PiPort.net.

ThinAir (TM) - A Revolution in Perceptual Computing

Pi Port™ Inc is developing a novel platform for technology that amalgamates AR (Augmented Reality) and Visual Reality along with perceptual Computing taking Human-Computer Interaction to the next generation. Pi Port Inc™ envisioned a dream of revolutionizing the way users interact with their machines, making it more accessible, effortless and seamless in providing the ultimate thrilling experience. In pursuit of that dream Pi Port™ created their ground-breaking application -Thin Air™.

Thin Air™ is a completely touch-less interface, meaning no physical touch of a user is required to perform actions and tasks.   This intuitive interface helps the user interact and execute all the complex inputs and instructions without involving of any proximity hardware like a controller, a glove, or a near field sensor. The current gesture-based algorithms are unable to provide a fine degree of control needed in operating systems wherein data input with the precision of a keyboard, mouse or touchpad is required. They are limited to executing basic commands such as those of starting or stopping an application, or moving from one screen to another, or triggering an event. Thin Air™ uses Augmented Reality to deploy a layer in the foreground of the user to display the controls, navigation tools and menus.  For example ThinAir's virtual keyboard creates an illusion of a keyboard floating in the space between the user and the desktop.  Users feel they’re pressing keys out of thin air while typing the text.  A complete range of text typing capabilities are currently impossible using available gestures algorithm.  They are limited to executing basic commands such as those of starting or stopping an application, or triggering an event.  Besides VIRTUAL KEYBOARD, ThinAir also provides various means of data input such as a full function MOUSE POINTER , an ultra precision PEN, a smooth PAGE SCROLLER,and ONSCREEN NAVIGATION LINKS AND ICONS, in a virtual translucent interface that apparently appears to float in the 3D space between the user and the display screen. Voice-based options such as voice-activated commands, text-to-voice and voice-to-text conversions are also incorporated in the ThinAir interface.  User's silhouette guides the user to move his hands and fingers to execute any command of desire with ease. Here’s a demo:

The Pi Port™ technology is a broad platform capable to address every conceivable user need from productivity to entertainment and everything in between. The uses for Thin Air™ range from personal, educational, business & entertainment purposes. It works perfectly for presentations giving them a unique futuristic look. Many designers and project development companies have displayed interest in this technology during our market research phase. Collaboration on projects will also be one of the many uses for Thin Air™.   The technology involves depth, motion, differentiation & face recognition algorithms to accomplish an intuitive and seamless experience for the user.  We've already seen innovations in user-interfaces  such as Apple's Siri and Google Now, and with gesture recognition in products like Microsoft's Kinect and a combination of both in the Xbox One. What makes Thin Air™ different from others is that it places the complete control of a computer in user's hand gestures instead of implementing merely a few functions piecemeal.

Thin Air™ is one of the finalists in Intel's global Perceptual Computing Challenge.  Check out the next post for the details.

Pi Port's Teleporter Pi (TM)

Teleportation is the transfer of matter from one point to another without traversing the physical space between them. The Sci-Fi fans love the concept of human teleportation but the path to the alluring concept is riddled with unsurmountable challenges. As much as the concept of teleportation is aggrandized in Hollywood flicks, state-of-the-art is still light years from transferring a human or for that matter any matter from destination A to destination B. Nevertheless, some scientists speculate that even if human teleportation becomes a reality in distant future, it can be only through analyzing the object in destination A, cloning it and transferring it to destination B while simultaneously erasing the original object in destination A. Assuming future generations attempt to teleport a human in the future, the human may be cloned with all the dreams, hopes and memories, but it will still not be the real self. Sci-Fi geeks will still argue that technology might evolve with time and there will be no neurotic and physical damages during human teleportation. While the futurists keep debating forever, the fact remains that teleportation of a physical being will always be virtual and never real.

Inspired by the super hit Star Trek Sci-Fi series, holography has been tried for virtual teleportation, but with no success in entering the mainstream. High cost, lack of portability, and poor image quality leaves no room for mass adaptation of holographic techniques. A single holographic virtual teleportation session is known to cost anywhere between $100,000 - $500,000 and requires either months of planning or a permanently installed hardware paraphernalia at all remote locations where virtual teleportation is desired.

What is Teleporter PiTM?

Teleportation, a dream of Sci-fi lovers is now finally being realized. Teleporter PiTM is a very user friendly product that enables virtual teleportation of real people like friends and family, individually or collectively, to distant exotic locations across the planet and beyond in space, or to impossible destinations of one's imagination, right from any personal computing device. The users can conduct live visual meetings with voice support anywhere in the universe, whether at a famous tourist destination, or hovering over a city in the sky, diving deep into the sea of marine life, or an expedition into the mysteries of space. Unlike holographic devices, Teleporter PiTM does not require costly and complicated 3D laser infrastructure. The basic requirements are just a stable internet connection along with a personal computing system which supports HD video capabilities. The setup takes hardly a couple of minutes, and the interface is very user friendly. Unlike holographic images, which are grainy and distinguishable in quality from rest of the environment, teleported images of Teleporter PiTM are indistinguishable from the environment in terms clarity, color saturation and can be viewed and recorded in 1080p Full HD resolution.

• Instant Special effects

Life is a journey but you don’t always get to travel at your favorite destinations. Life must be adventurous and thrilling but when people have jobs, schools and home chores, they don’t have the time and energy to make their life exciting enough. A soul dreams a stroll with a dinosaur, another desires lions and tigers as pets, yet another wishes a vacation in Neverland. To cure people from their boredom and provide them ultimate entertainment and excitement, Teleportek PiTM delivers them a visual relish of the impossible. The more impossible a dream, the more gratifying is its realization, even if it is in a virtual world. The users can now actually participate in those out-of-the-world million dollar visual escapades that only big movie stars were blessed with. With its instant special effects, Teleporter PiTM makes users instant stars of their own movie.

• Video Meetings

Man is a social animal. We all need to communicate with friends, family, business associates or members of our social network. It's not always that communication can happen is face-to-face. In fact, in the previous decades it's been more of telecommunication rather than communication. Meetings are becoming more virtual than real. Modern always-on devices are connecting people like never before. Instead of computers staying online we now talk of humans being online. A user who is online can now voice chat or video chat with another online user. It's like living in presence of anyone you want 24/7, and being able to talk and see the person whenever you want. The technology has brought us thus far, but it still does not prevent us from getting bored while just looking and chatting with each other in the same settings over and over again. So what's next?

Variety is the spice of life they say and actually believe. Teleporter PiTM adds that extra spice to your life. It makes video conferencing more interesting, engaging and entertaining by virtually teleporting your tele-meeting to any exotic destination of your choice that suites your mood, circumstances and preferences. You can spend your time with one individual alone at a cozy virtual location, such as Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower, etc., or you can invite more people to Teleporter's PiShip that takes you on an exploration trip to almost anywhere in the Universe including, a thrilling deep see underwater experience, or a space flight, or hover over any of the famous skies on planet earth. With Teleporter PiTM your entertainment options are limited only by your imagination.

• Immersive Gaming

Augmented Reality (AR) has been around for quite sometime, but couldn't find a place in serious mainstream video gaming. In 2007 Sony's “THE EYE OF JUDGMENT” entered the Guinness Book of World Records, as world's first Augmented Reality console game. But unfortunately for lack of advanced AR tools AR could hardly find a place in console gaming. Pi Port's proprietary technology platform can potentially change that and help create a new popular genre of AR games. The ability to teleport a gamer into a gaming environment opens up brand new possibilities for game developers. As a consequence Pi Port is promoting an open innovation approach by offering free SDK to game developer community. Game developers can now develop the next generation of AR games that provide a completely new gaming experience to the gamers.

• Personals

Mainstream dating sites catering to serious relationship seekers seeking soul mates for true love and romance have been apprehensive about safety, privacy, legitimacy and above all, cash-flow issues of conventional video chat features. Singles, particularly females, are apprehensive about sharing personal info with strangers. As a result mainstream dating sites are a bit jittery about featuring live third party video chat tools as part of their offerings.

Fiction has helped humanity survive and thrive, and so has romance. Combine the two and you escalate your dating experience to the seventh heaven. Technological innovations can now bring teleportation from science fiction to real online experience. Looking at the trends, singles will soon be able to virtually teleport themselves to any of world's choicest romantic destinations of their choice for a face-to-face meeting with their date, and do it completely securely and anonymously without sharing any of their personal info until they feel ready. They can even go on an expedition in a futuristic ship to discover together undiscovered romantic destinations in space or in deep sea. The best part is that it is completely secure and anonymous without having to share any of user's personal information, not even any unsightly views of their private living space.

DatePortTM is an example of a new non-holographic virtual teleportation technology especially designed for the dating industry. DatePortTM supports full HD quality rendition of users at each end of their teleportation tunnel, uses their existing communication devices, does it anonymously (hiding user's personal ID), and creates substantial revenue streams for the early adaptors.
